Opening a new case
Who can open, edit or delete cases is set by their role (Cases Create, Update and Delete). The Owner and Admins can do all three; see Roles & permissions for everyone else.
A case is opened with a title, client, category and case type, status, priority, and an opened-on date; there is no field for a court CNR number at creation.
- Category and case type are chosen from lists filtered to your firm's profession.
- Status defaults to Open and priority defaults to Medium, both editable before saving.
Smart Fill: creating a case from a document
Smart Fill uses AI to read an uploaded document and extract a likely title, description, priority, client, and case type.
It never creates a case automatically. It opens the same case-creation form pre-filled with its suggestions, so you always review and confirm before the case is saved.
Linking a court CNR
A case and a court CNR are two separate records joined by a separate step, not one form.
First create the case normally. Then, from Court Intelligence, search the CNR and use Link internal case to attach it to the existing case.
- The case detail page shows a badge labelled "CNR {number}" in its header. That number is QubitPilot's own internal case number (format CS-{year}-{sequence}), not the court's CNR. Don't mistake this label for a linked CNR; check the case's Court Intelligence link to see whether a real CNR is attached.
How to
How to open a new case
- Open Cases and select New case (your role needs Cases Create).
- Choose the client and a category and case type for the matter.
- Set status, priority, and opened-on date, or leave the defaults.
- Save: the case is created without a CNR.
How to link a case to a court CNR
- Create the case first, with no CNR field to fill in.
- Go to Court Intelligence and search for the matter's CNR.
- Select Link internal case and choose the case you just created.
How to create a case from a document with Smart Fill
- Open Cases and choose Smart Fill.
- Upload the document. QubitPilot extracts a suggested title, description, priority, client, and case type.
- Review and edit the pre-filled case form.
- Save to create the case; nothing is created until you do.
Good to know
- Case creation, editing and deletion follow the Cases permissions in each member's role. A member who opens a case is added to its team, so they can always see it.
- The "CNR {number}" badge on a case's header is the internal case number, not a real court CNR. CNR linking is a deliberate separate step via Court Intelligence.
- Assigning people to a case happens on the case detail page's Team Assignment card, not in the create or edit form.
