Adding a source
You can add a source two ways: upload a file (PDF, TXT, or MD) through the dropzone, or paste raw text directly to index it.
Every source moves through a processing pipeline with a visible status: pending, parsing, ready, or failed. The page checks for updates every 2 seconds while anything is still processing, so you don't need to refresh manually.
Using a source
Once a source reaches ready, a "Chat with this source" action jumps straight into the Assistant with that source already attached, so your first question is already scoped to it.
Deleting a source removes its indexed content permanently. There's no undo, so re-adding it means uploading or pasting it again.
Sources that come from File Manager
A source doesn't always start on the Knowledge page. Files uploaded through File Manager are automatically queued into the same indexing pipeline, and once indexed they show up here marked as "linked to document" rather than as a direct upload.
If a File Manager upload fails to index, it can be retried manually from the file's own page rather than re-uploaded from scratch.
How to
How to add a document the assistant can cite
- Go to Knowledge and either drop in a PDF/TXT/MD file or paste text directly.
- Wait for the status to reach ready. This can take a few seconds while it's parsed and indexed.
- Use "Chat with this source" to ask the assistant questions grounded in that content, or just ask in any chat once it's ready.
Good to know
- Deleting a source is permanent. Its indexed chunks are gone and can't be recovered, only re-added from the original file or text.
- A file uploaded in File Manager is indexed automatically; you don't have to also add it separately on the Knowledge page.
